Natural History Outtakes

A thorny mud crab (Micropanope urinator) scuttles along the face of a Fire Coral (Millepora alcicornis) encrusted barnacle range.

During the production of Natural History Redux we naturally had several outtakes… enjoy!

 

A near-transparent flatworm slithers across the oral disc of a Mycedium sp. chalice coral.

 

Stichodactyla helianthus anemone and the Periclimenes rathbunae shrimp that lives among its tentacles.

 

A juvenile Mithraculus cinctimanus crab harvests mucous from the surface of a Colpophyllia natans coral, creating a “ball” that it will then ingest as a food source.

 

A closer look at the eye of a Thor amboinensis shrimp.

 

A Cerianthus tube anemone inflates its fluorescent tentacles.

 

Felimare picta sea slug traveling along the Dysedia fragilis sponge, its primary food source.
